The news broke late April 23, 2015. Reports began to circulate that Stjepan Hauser has a neck injury and venues were beginning to tweet and post that their scheduled 2CELLOS shows were being cancelled.
Then we got word from StubHub, where we were monitoring some event ticket sales.
2CELLOS then pinned a post to their facebook wall with the following announcement…
Soon news, rumors and speculations began popping up all over the internet. At Slipped Disc (the page has since been removed) a Sony Executive made a comment…
Additionally, Twitter was posting the above YouTube video of 2Cellos performance in New York’s Best Buy Theater on April 22, 2015. In the video, you can see an obviously pained Stjepan wave a kiss goodbye to the crowd as Luka offers a consoling pat of support on his back.
The next scheduled US tour performance was to take place at the The Weinberg Center For The Arts in Fredericksburg, MD – the first cancelled show. After the announcement, fans worldwide began to send tweets and posts of support to Stjepan.
Upon checking, the official 2CELLOS website changed all of the SOLD OUT shows to CANCELLED.
This also means that surely the scheduled television appearances have been cancelled as well. 2CELLOS was scheduled to perform on Dancing with the Stars this coming week.
It is hard to speculate what may be the cause of Stjepan’s injury. There are several possibilities and thus far there has been no official announcements other that what they shared on Facebook and subsequently at the venue sites.
The strongest possibility is Cervical Disc Herniation, which is very common. This kind of injury is very serious because depending upon which disc is herniated, the movement of the hands and fingers can become severely impaired.
You can read more about the injury here: http://www.neckpain-cause.com/symptoms-of-and-treatment-for-cervical-disc-herniation/
Once the injury manifests, something as simple as a sneeze can set it off. Sadly, there have been cellists who have had to end their careers when they had similar injuries, the most famous of these is Julian Lloyd Weber who was forced to retire in April of 2014. (more here).
NOTE: The above is merely our consideration of what MAY be happening based on some quick research. No official diagnoses have been published as of this posting.
We certainly hope and pray this is not the case with Stjepan’s injury.
For those of you wanting to send get well cards or gifts to Stjepan, it would be best to send them in care of Morris Studio in Zagreb as we have heard that 2CELLOS have returned to Croatia for recovery. The mailing address is below:
